3rd Modern Finance Conference

The 3rd Modern Finance Conference (MFC 2026) was held at the Krakow University of Economics in Krakow, Poland, and organized by the Modern Finance Institute. The conference brought together 180 participants from 40 countries, featuring 165 research presentations by scholars from around the world.

We were honored to host two distinguished keynote speakers. Professor Marcin Kacperczyk from Imperial College London delivered the keynote address “What’s the Carbon Premium a Premium On?”, while Professor Douglas Cumming from Stevens Institute of Technology spoke on “Publishing in Finance.”

The conference also featured a Meet the Editors Panel with Oskar Kowalewski, Sabri Boubaker, Ilan Alon, and Douglas Cumming, representing several leading international finance and business journals. In addition to regular research sessions, the program included Editors’ Fast Track sessions, Elevator Pitch sessions, a poster session, and the MFC Best Paper Award.

We thank all participants, speakers, editors, session chairs, discussants, and volunteers for their contributions to making the 3rd Modern Finance Conference a success.

Book of Abstracts

Best Paper Award

The MFC 2026 Best Paper Award was presented to Atreya Dey from the University of Cambridge, Cambridge Judge Business School, for the paper titled “A Bird’s-Eye View: Firm Biodiversity Footprints and Earnings Expectations.”

The Runner-Up Award went to Philip Fliegel from Humboldt University Berlin for the paper “The Political Economy of Asset Ownership: Evidence from the Global Power Sector.

The Best Pitch Award was presented to Vasilios Plakandaras from Democritus University of Thrace for the paper “Forecasting the Variance of Housing Prices.”
