Call for Papers

Following the 2024 conference with participants from numerous countries, we are pleased to announce the 2nd Modern Finance Conference (MFC 2025). We invite researchers, academics, and practitioners in finance to present their original research and engage in stimulating discussions to advance financial knowledge and research excellence. This conference aims to provide a platform for the dissemination of cutting-edge research, innovative ideas, and novel approaches across all areas of finance.

The program will include keynote addresses, research papers presented in concurrent sessions, poster presentations, and panels with journal editors. The conference will be held in a hybrid format, with separate in-person and online sessions.

MFC 2025 is co-organized and hosted by the Faculty of Economic Sciences at the University of Warsaw, Poznan University of Economics and Business, and Modern Finance Institute.

Best Paper Awards

Prizes will be awarded in the following areas:

  • Best Paper Award: 1000 EUR and a fee waiver for the next MFC
  • Runner-up Award: A fee waiver for the next MFC

All authors of full papers submitted to the conference will be considered for the award.

Special Session on Profit Shifting*

The conference will include a dedicated session focusing on recent developments in profit shifting and the Global Anti-Base Erosion Rules (GloBE), in particular the second pillar. We invite theoretical and empirical research exploring issues such as the impact of corporate governance or ownership structures on profit shifting, the role of financial and non-financial reporting in this context, and the influence of institutional or regulatory governance on reporting standards. Topics may include the balance of payments and the investment position of non-financial corporations engaged in passive income transfer to non-residents. Keynote Speakers

Iftekhar Hassan

Prof. Iftekhar Hasan

Gabelli School of Business, Fordham University

Iftekhar Hasan is a professor at Fordham University, holding the E. Gerald Corrigan Chair in Finance and serving as the academic director of the Ph.D. program and co-director of the Center for Research in Contemporary Finance. He is a scientific advisor at the Central Bank of Finland, a fractional faculty member at the University of Sydney, and a research fellow at the Wharton School and IWH Institute in Germany. He is the managing editor of the Journal of Financial Stability and has been an associate editor for several journals.

His research focuses on financial institutions, corporate finance, capital markets, and emerging economies, often addressing public policy issues. He has received numerous research grants and published over 450 works, including 16 books and 330 peer-reviewed articles in top journals such as JFE, JFQA, RF, JAR, RAST, CAR, JME, JIBS, SMJ, and MS. His work has been cited more than 34,000 times.

Professor Hasan has held visiting positions at universities across the globe, including in Rome, Strasbourg, Madrid, Lausanne, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Bucharest, and Sydney. He has also consulted for international organizations like the World Bank, IMF, Federal Reserve, and Banque de France. A Fulbright scholar and selector, Hasan has been honored with distinctions such as Changjiang Scholar and Doctor Honoris Causa from the Romanian American University.

Publication Opportunities

All abstracts of papers accepted for the conference will be published in the book of abstracts.

After the conference, authors will be invited to publish their full paper either in the:

  • MFC 2025 Conference Proceedings – deadline: November 30, 2025
  • MFC 2025 supporting journals – deadline: December 31, 2025

Full papers submitted to the Proceedings of the MFC 2025 Conference Proceedings will be subject to an expedited peer review process, with reviewers being primarily members of the conference committees.

Authors may also choose to submit their full papers to the supporting journals of the conference, and their submissions will be reviewed according to the journal's review criteria. Please note that acceptance of a paper to the conference does not guarantee publication and that only a limited number of outstanding papers will be published by the journals.

How to Publish in Top Journals?

Join Professor Peter G. Szilagyi for a workshop on the key strategies to successfully publish in leading academic journals. The session will provide practical advice on writing research papers, navigating the peer review process, and responding to feedback. The lecture will conclude with an interactive Q&A.

About the Speaker

Peter G. Szilagyi is a Professor of Finance at EDHEC Business School. He holds a PhD from Tilburg University and previously held a research fellowship at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. Peter has extensive experience in academic leadership, having served as Director of the MPhil in Finance at Cambridge, Head of the MS in Finance, and Director of Business Master's Programs at Central European University.

Prof. Szilagyi is a highly experienced editor. He currently serves as Editor of Elsevier’s Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money. He was previously Editor and remains Advisory Editor at the Journal of Multinational Financial Management. He is also a Subject Editor at Emerging Markets Review and an Associate Editor at Finance Research Letters.

Prof. Szilagyi has published his research in several leading academic journals, including the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Corporate Finance, and Energy Economics. His work, which spans corporate finance, business ethics, and international finance, reflects his wide-ranging expertise and contributions to the field.

Submissions

How to Submit

Please submit your full papers or extended abstracts via the Eventsadmin platform by June 30, 2025. To submit, click the "Submit a Paper" button below or follow this link [XXX will provide later].

We accept papers in Word or PDF format, and you are free to use any layout. We provide a simple template for those submitting extended abstracts, which can be accessed here. Please ensure that your extended abstract is at least 300 words in length.

The official language of the conference is English. All submissions, including full papers, extended abstracts, and presentations, must be in English.

Upon acceptance, you will receive a Confirmation of Acceptance email within four weeks of submission confirming that your paper has been approved for inclusion in the conference program.

Presentation Modes at the Conference

The conference will feature four presentation formats to accommodate different preferences and engagement styles. Authors should indicate their preferred presentation mode (Regular In-Person, Elevator Pitch, Poster Session, or Online Presentation) during the registration process.

MFC 2025 will be held at the Faculty of Economics Sciences (FES) of the University of Warsaw, the biggest university in Poland. The FES is located in the city center, about 30 30-minute drive from the Okecie International Airport and 15 minutes from the Warsaw Central Railway Station.

The conference fee does not include accommodation. There are several hotels in the vicinity of the conference site.
Please note that all conference participants and presenters are responsible for making hotel reservations and paying hotel expenses.
